Gröna Hissen is a bright green cocktail that brings back memories for many. With its bold color from green curaçao and sweet bubbles from Swedish soda Champis, it’s a drink that’s hard to miss. It became popular in Sweden during the 80s and has stayed a fun party classic ever since.
The drink is a mix of gin, green curaçao, and Champis – a simple but playful combination.
The name “Gröna Hissen” (the Green Elevator) refers to how the drink makes you feel and also to the raisins that float up and down in the glass as the bubbles lift them. It’s a small detail but one that makes the drink stand out.
Swedish bartender David Kringlund has helped bring back interest in this retro favorite. He points out that even though the recipe is simple, getting the balance right and choosing the right Champis makes a big difference.
Gröna Hissen is perfect when you want to serve something fun, colorful, and a little nostalgic. It’s a drink that doesn’t take itself too seriously but still delivers both flavor and personality.
