Islay Mist has a fascinating history that takes us back to the golden age of blended whisky and to an Islay far removed from the world-famous tourist destination the peaty little Hebridean whisky island has become today. Islay Mist is one of the most awarded blended whiskies and brings together the best of Scotland’s whisky regions – the smooth, velvety character of Speyside and the bold, peaty power of Islay. The aroma is mild and peaty with notes of tobacco, toasted bread, hazelnuts, dark chocolate, and heather honey. The palate offers a pleasantly smoky profile with ripe pears, baked apples, vanilla, and candied almonds. The finish is long and warming with hints of liquorice, charred oak, and a fading whisper of smoke.
Most distilleries produce the same type of whisky, primarily stored in one or a few types of casks. However, Benriach creates three types of whisky, which they age in numerous casks from around the world. This diversity provides Master Blender Rachel Barrie with an extensive toolbox as she develops and experiments with the many possibilities of their whisky. From the four stills, Benriach annually produces well over two million liters of new make spirit. This includes lightly peated spirit in the classic Speyside style, heavily peated, and also triple-distilled spirit. These styles, combined with highly active cask management and aging in a variety of barrels, make Benriach the most multifaceted distillery in Speyside, and probably all of Scotland.
As stipulated in the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897, a “bonded” whiskey must be distilled by a single distillery during a single season, matured in a government bonded warehouse for at least four years and bottled at 100 proof/50% alc.
Jack Daniel’s Bonded is Jack’s time-honoured recipe of 80% corn, 12% malted barley and 8% rye. Barrels are carefully selected for their unique and special characteristics with deeper color, taste and aroma. It brings a darker, richer and more oak-forward character to Jack Daniel’s Bonded. It’s a big, bold 100 proof Tennessee Whiskey with layered notes of caramel, rich oak and spice that give way to a pleasantly long finish.
Glendronach 12 YO Original is a flagship in the distillery's fleet of bottlings. The 12-year-old is in many ways a benchmark for the distillery and sets a standard for how a sherry-aged whisky should be. The whisky is both a textbook example and an introduction to the world of flavorful and vinous single malts. It's a whisky that can certainly be enjoyed as it is, possibly with a bit of water, or paired with a sweeter dessert like vanilla panna cotta or an ice cream dessert.
